The evolution of the diesel engine continues as ever more sophisticated technologies come into use - Mike Woof writes A major focus for diesel engine suppliers is for the development of low emission technologies. Tough regulations are in force in North America and Europe with regard to emissions, a programme introduced to help reduce pollution from off-highway machines. These technologies are also being introduced in stages in other territories, with China now rolling out tougher regulations.
Engine maker Deutz dumps full-year 2015 forecast amid poor trading

German engine maker Deutz Group said it will not meet its forecast for the current financial year. A sluggish second quarter with “very low” new orders means revenue is expected to fall by around 20% compared with the forecasted 10% drop, according to a corporate statement. “Consequently, the second half of 2015 will be significantly worse than the first half of the year,” the statement said. “Given the low level of business, Deutz will only be just about break even in terms of EBIT this year. Sales down but Deutz keeps profit level in first half 2015

German engine maker Deutz has reported new order sales were down just over 10% in the first half of this year, to €670.7 million. Unit sales also fell, around 21% down on the first half of last year, to 78,120 engines. Sales of 41,213 engines in the second quarter of 2015 were 11.7% higher than in the previous quarter but were 24.5% lower than in prior-year quarter (Q2 2014: 54,622 engines). Engine firm Deutz has announced its financial results for the first quarter of 2015. The firm says that business performance is in line with expectations. The company has seen a decline in unit sales and revenue due to the effects of advance production of engines in the previous financial year. JCB Power Systems, the engine business of the British equipment manufacturer, is experiencing growing demand for its products, thanks to its ability to meet Stage IV emissions regulations without a costly DPF. “We’ve struck some major deals with manufacturers,” said JCB Power Systems’ OEM engine sales and development manager Robert Payne. “Our OEM business is five times the size it was in 2009 and we saw 63% growth in OEM sales volumes from 2013 to 2014.”
FPT Industrial ready for Stage V standard
