Perkins is powering up with a new line of Tier 4 Interim/Stage IIIB compliant range of industrial engines. These diesels are said to offer an increase in power and torque as well as the number of options available. These power packages comprise engine, aftertreatment, radiator, air cleaner and optional compressor, which can all be mounted on a base frame. The first commercially available package will be the 1206E, a 7litre, six cylinder engine capable of producing up to 205kW.

Hitachi Construction Machinery (Europe)/(HCME) has said that it is increasing its focus on the supply of spare parts with the opening of a new European parts centre in April 2011. This represents a significant investment of €e12million in the 53,000m2 facility (22,000m2 covered), formerly owned by the car manufacturer Citroën and located in the city of Oosterhout in the south of The Netherlands. Deutz's TCD3.6L4 diesel engine claims high output, low fuel consumption and low noise and exhaust emissions. According to Deutz, the four-cylinder engine sets a new benchmark in its class in terms of torque curve and compact dimensions and also features smooth running characteristics. The engine has sophisticated injection technology and exhaust after-treatment and delivers a torque curve that peaks at 460Nm at a speed of 2,300-2,600rpm over its entire power output range of 50-95kW.

Volvo CE says that lowering fuel consumption will tackle fleet costs and deliver environmental benefits for its customers, Mike Woof reports. Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) is targeting fuel economy and performance with its latest generation of machines. The new L180F and L220F wheeled loader models are being fitted with the sophisticated OptiShift package, which will boost operation and driveline efficiencies and cut fuel consumption by 15%, and more in some instances.

US company Dana Corporation and Bosch Rexroth of Germany expect to form a 50-50 joint venture to codevelop and manufacture advanced drive transmissions for the offhighway market. A memorandum of understanding to this effect was signed by the two companies. Dana is a leader in the supply of axles, driveshafts, offhighway transmissions, sealing and thermal-management products, and genuine service parts, while Bosch Rexroth is a leading specialist in the field of drive and control technologies.

German engine manufacturer DEUTZ says that following an excellent start to the year and a growing order book, it passed another milestone. In late May, the 2 millionth engine came off the assembly line in Cologne-Porz, which was commissioned in 1993. The model 1013 engine is one of many DEUTZ engines manufactured in Porz, which are used in applications such as construction equipment. Advanced Filtration Systems Incorporated (AFSI), the manufacturer of Caterpillar and Perkins differentiated liquid filters, has opened a new manufacturing facility in the Czech Republic. According to Caterpillar the facility will allow for better service to the markets in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
