Heatec’s new emulsion mill skid is on display at Conexpo. The skid, designed to produce 54tonnes of emulsified asphalt per hour, includes an asphalt meter system, a latex pump, a control panel, and the new Barracuda colloid mill. In designing the Barracuda mill, engineers from Heatec examined existing mills to research known drawbacks and see how they could be overcome. Heating Design Equipment (HDE) was displaying updated versions of two of its successful products at Conexpo: the HDE 750 2TMT asphalt maintenance trailer and the HDE JMH 500-PA asphalt joint heater. The asphalt maintenance trailer heats up and softens an area of asphalt, allowing it to be reworked and repaired. According to HDE, the infrared heaters can soften the top 60mm of asphalt to the original mixing temperatures in between five and 10 minutes.

Hamm unveiled its new line of HD+ i-series tandem asphalt compactors at Conexpo. “The big change here is that we are now using Tier 4 Interim engines,” said Richard Evans, vice president of sales for Hamm. Goodyear has developed the RL-4D tyre range in response to customer demand for a harsh floor tyre in underground mining. A hybrid mix of the GP4-D and the firm’s RL5K tyre, the RL-4D is suitable for articulated dump trucks and wheeled loaders. Initially the tyre has been launched in an 875/65R29 size, but the company could develop additional sizes if there is demand.

At Conexpo on Thursday, the company unveiled the 45142 boom truck, which does not require a federal permit in any of the 50 US states. “It’s a significant feature,” said David Phillips, manager of global business development and marketing at Elliott. To say the GigapixelCam X10 is a high-powered camera is an understatement. The camera, unveiled by EarthCam.net at Conexpo 2014, is capable of taking 10 billion pixel, 360º panoramic images. “We help monitor, document and promote,” said Brian Cury, CEO and founder of the company. The monitoring comes in the form of live-streaming video that can bring the job site to a desktop. The documenting is achieved through archiving photos throughout the process, should a dispute surface.

Finnish manufacturer of hydraulic generators, power washers and compressors Dynaset has updated its entire range of equipment, with the launch of the Dynaset Blue Hydraulic line. This includes 17 new products and numerous updated models. With developments in hydraulic technology, many of the products have been made more compact, though offering improved output.

Chicago Pneumatic has launched a new complete line of compact tandem asphalt rollers and soil compactors to the North American marketplace. The introduction of ride-on rollers is said to offer a larger-scale complement to the line of Chicago Pneumatic light compaction equipment. The models being introduced in North America include articulated tandem asphalt rollers in both petrol and diesel models, as well as small vibratory rollers for soil compaction.

Bridgestone has launched three additional tyre lines, each with a specific duty cycle in mind. The DFAS range is initially available in a 17.5R25 size and is intended as an all-weather tyre for graders. The tyre has pyramid-shaped tread blocks with two lateral grooves to rapidly clear snow. As the tyre wears the blocks in effect get wider, providing continued grip in all conditions.

BOMAG is offering new soil compacting solutions for the 4-8tonne class with the BW177D-5 being the first of this improved range. Weighing in at 6.7tonnes, the machine has a 55.4kW diesel and Friedrich Knoche, a product manager for the soil compactors said, “These machines are totally new and they have Tier 4 Final engines. There are two versions, the DH with better gradeability and the D, which is the standard model.”

Atlas has updated the cab on its 215LCsr short tail swing excavator. The 21.8tonne crawler gets a revised electrical system along with a new steering column and operator’s seat.
