US-based wear part specialist BLS Enterprises is broadening its product line with a new trackpad system. The firm’s president, Barry Stoughton, explained that the new product is designed for use with excavators, allowing them to be driven on an asphalt or concrete road without damaging the surface. “It’s rubber bonded to steel,” said Stoughton. “We use a triple grouser steel pad.”

Nylacast said that its improved self-lubricating plastic components are finding new markets in North America. The plastic parts suit duties in applications such as booms for cranes, access platforms and telehandlers. Because the material is self-lubricating, it offers long wear life in this type of installation and reduces maintenance needs and costs for the machine user.

Manitowoc has released the first synthetic hoist rope designed specifically for mobile cranes. The hoist rope is Grove’s new RT770E with KZ 100. It is a result of a joint development between Samson, a synthetic rope manufacturer, and Manitowoc. The hoist rope is 80% lighter than wire rope and features torque neutral construction that eliminates load spin and cabling. Manitowoc has introduced two new crawler cranes that feature what the company calls “game-changing” counterweight technology. The company introduced the 300tonne MLC300 and the 650tonne MLC650 on Wednesday. Among the features of the new cranes are their Variable Position Counterweight, or VPC.

Marketing director Michele Vitulano said that the company has had a particularly strong demand for its well proven steel shears in North America. And he added that business trends suggest sales for 2014 to be better than those for 2013 in North America in particular due to steady gains in industry activity.
