Northern Ireland’s Department for Infrastructure has awarded Siemens UK a long-term traffic signal equipment management deal across more than 1,200 sites. It includes 950 Safer Routes to School signs, as well as a network of ANPR cameras and other Vehicle Activated Signs and rising bollards. Siemens said that the four-year deal is one of the largest of its kind that it has won as the main contractor. The principal objectives of the contract are to maintain a high level of equipment availability.

The crane-and-bucket combination is positioned on its own 3m removeable wall section and provides a 9.15m reach and a capacity of 3900kg at base and 680kg at 9.15m. Colas’s Yellow Project has been developed with Aximum Electronic Products - a Colas Group Company - and software experts Foxstream. The system uses thermal imaging and video analytics to detect and classify approaching vehicles into “threat categories”. Rolls-Royce is supplying MTU brand engines to Japanese construction machinery manufacturer Kato for use in its excavator segment. The engine – a six-cylinder inline Series 1000 unit delivering 210kW – will be used to power a 30tonne hydraulic excavator from Kato’s HD range. Equipped with an SCR system, the MTU engine meets the specifications of Heisei 26 - the emissions stage in effect in Japan since last year. The MTU brand is part of Rolls-Royce Power Systems.

In Denmark’s northern Jutland, Leica Geosystems’ equipment is being used to help build a 40km motorway, one of the fastest-built such projects in the country’s history. The Danish Road Directorate is the client for the €5.4 million motorway between the two Danish cities of Herning, to the south with around 50,000 people, and Holstebro, a city of about 35,000 people, north of Herning. Preliminary ground investigations were made in 2013 and work started in 2015 with completion set for 2018.
