Atlas Copco Road Construction Equipment has decided to align the visual identity of its Dynapac range of rollers and pavers to the design used by the other divisions in the Atlas Copco Construction Technique business area. Launched at bauma, the new Atlas Copco logotype is clearly visible on the products together with the Dynapac name. The colour scheme changes to yellow and grey, which is already used for construction tools, portable compressors and generators.

The Ditch Witch organisation, which specialises in the design and manufacture of premium underground construction equipment, is offering bauma visitors a sneak peak at the prototype of the yet-to-be-released JT60 all-terrain horizontal directional drill.

Materials testing firm Matest has launched an asphalt splitter at bauma. The machine breaks up asphalt specimens so that the constituent parts can be tested, a task that is often carried out by hand. “The purpose of the machine is to make the operator’s life easier,” said area manager Massiono Martorini. The splitter should also lead to greater efficiency, as breaking specimens down will take less time, and allow laboratory technicians to do other things. Italian firm Outset has extended the functionality of its Lanx Evo on-board truck weighing system with the development of an app for the iOS platform. Called Lanx Evo, the app allows operators to use an iPhone to connect to Outset’s on-board truck scale, enabling the iOS device to show a continuous display of payload. Deutz will this year achieve its 500,000th engine sale to Atlas Copco, marking an impressive milestone in a business relationship stretching back 57 years. In addition to the main Atlas Copco brand, Deutz also supplies other well-known companies in the Group, such as Dynapac and Chicago Pneumatic in China. Virtually the entire Deutz product range is in use in Atlas Copco group machines.

Manitou’s skid steer loader, the V400, is already proving popular with US road contractors. Named ‘the King’ by the manufacturer, it is the largest skid steer loader available in the world. A robot on the bauma stand of Italian company Penta Automazioni Industriali has been demonstrating the precision laying of paving blocks. Penta’s custom-made handling technology enables a robot to read the size of each block, pick up individual pieces and position them to make up a panel.

Volvo’s latest machines have been joined at bauma by a clutch of new attachments, including excavator buckets and a hydraulic breaker range. The range of tailored buckets and hydraulic breakers is designed to match the technical and performance characteristics of Volvo machines. Introductions include general-purpose and heavy-duty buckets for large excavators and a new line of hydraulic breakers for compact excavators.

ZF used bauma 2013 to show the next stage of development for its cPower continuously variable transmission (CVT). By combining the transmission with a hybrid module, ZF said greater operating efficiencies were available from the integration of start/stop technology and energy recovery from regenerative braking. Potentially, the hybrid drive system has the ability to boost fuel efficiency by up to 25% in addition to the 20% higher operating efficiency already offered by the cPower transmission, said ZF.
