Komatsu Germany manufacturing merger

Komatsu is merging its manufacturing operations in Germany. The Komatsu Hanomag (KOHAG) plant in Hanover and the Komatsu Mining Germany facility in Düsseldorf are to merge. Both factories will remain but they will be operated jointly as Komatsu Germany.

VIDEO - Controlled bridge demolition over motorway

A UK-based demolition contractor has carried out a successful bridge demolition project over the busy M1 motorway. The specialist firm, Amac Group, used a fleet of excavators fitted with hydraulic breakers and other attachments to break up the bridge in a single overnight possession from 10th-11th September 2016. The bridge demolition is the first of two being carried out as part of the improvement works for a new link road connecting the M1 and A5 routes. The second bridge removal is planned for the 24th-25th September.

Taiwan highway upgrade project approved

Approval has been given for a major highway upgrade project in Taiwan. The Provincial Highway No 9 runs North-South and connects Hualien County with Taitung County. This route will be widened along a 41km stretch that lies between the Muguaxi Bridge and the border between the counties of Hualien and Taitung. The widening work will allow the highway to carry greater traffic volumes and the project was approved by the National Development Council of Taiwan. Work to commence on new Philippines expressway

Work is due to commence in 2017 on the new Cavite-Laguna Expressway in the Philippines. This 47km route will run along the coast to the south of capital Manila, with its north eastern end lying close to the city’s international airport. The route connects Cavitex in Cavite's Kawit with the SLEx-Mamplasan Interchange in Laguna's Biñan. The project will improve connections to the airport as well as from Manila to the southern end of Luzon.

A new study from Bangkok’s Kasikorn Research Centre reveals the extent to which the notorious traffic congestion of Thailand’s capital city costs the country’s economy. The Slovakian government is examining bids for two tenders for motorway stretches D1 because of their higher-than-expected costs. The deal involves the Presov West - Presov South stretch and the D3 Cadca, Bukov - Svrcinovec section, according to a report in Pravda. Both projects are bypasses of Cadca, near the border with Poland and the Czech Republic, and Presov in eastern Slovakia. Hungary will spend €484.75 million on road construction projects in 2017. Around 1,350km of roads will be built. Preparation work is starting on a widening project for the A99 Autobahn, which runs around the city of Munich in the southern German state of Bavaria. A new concrete road is now open to traffic in Nigeria’s Kogi State. This is of note as the new 24km road is the now the country’s longest to be made from concrete.
