Road development work continues in India, with the country planning its highway infrastructure expansion. The projects are being planned by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). A new 127km highway will connect Lucknow with Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh. The four lane route will also pass through Ayyubganj and Musafirkhana and is expected to cost in the region of US$425.3 million to construct. The work is being carried out by the contractor Dilip Buildon.

The tender process will commence in early 2017 for a new highway project in Turkey. Work on the new highway is expected to commence in the second quarter of 2018 and should take around five years to build. The first tender will be for a 100km section of the route although the highway will be around 352km long in all once it is complete.

A new road project will improve transport connections in Nigeria’s Bauchi State. The 175km road project will cost US$65 million to carry out. Also planned in Bauchi State is work to upgrade a 2.5km stretch of road in the state capital, Bauchi, which connects to the main road heading north eastwards to the city of Kano, itself the state capital of Kano State.

Work on infrastructure development for the Australian city of Sydney is progressing well, according to a new report into the transport programme. Plans to upgrade the Vilnius to Utena highway in Lithuania will now go ahead following the securing of a loan to help pay for the project. The €40 million loan is being sourced from the European Investment Bank (EIB). The loan will be for a period for 12 years, with guarantees being provided by the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI). Financing has been found to fund road construction work in Germany. In all some €2.1 billion has been sourced by the German Government to help pay for 24 road upgrade and construction projects in the country. Of this funding stream some €314 million is being utilised by the southern German state of Bavaria. The road authorities in Bavaria plan to use the financial resources to pay for upgrades to two stretches of Autobahn and five sections of Bundestrasse.

Spain is planning to improve the V-30 highway route in the city of Valencia. The highway runs from the port in the south west of the city and links with the industrial zone located to the north east of the city. The route also provides an important connection to the city’s airport, which is located in between the A-3 and V30 highways. The work has an estimated cost of €145 million and is intended to increase capacity, with the plans being drawn up by the Ministry of Development.

Major plans to upgrade Sri Lanka’s transportation network are being developed. The plans call for upgrades to roads, rail and port facilities right across the country, in a bid to boost the economy.
