Colombia dual carriageways under construction

Colombia is currently working on major highway projects that will improve transport infrastructure in the country and form part of its 4G programme. The US$616.5 million Rumichaca-Pasto dual carriageway in Narino department will improve Colombia’s transport connections with neighbouring Ecuador, cutting journey times from two hours at present to just one hour. Queensland crossing under construction

Construction work for the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing (TSRC) viaduct in Queensland is now underway. The 800m viaduct is a key component of the US$1.21 billion (A$1.6 billion) project to provide a new bypass around Toowoomba. This will mean traffic passing through will no longer have to pass through the central business district and instead will be routed along the highway bypass, boosting transport and safety.
Norway mega-tunnel being planned

Norway is now drawing up plans for a road tunnel mega project. The Rogfast tunnel will be record beating link when it is complete as it will run for a total of 27km. This will make it the longest road tunnel ever constructed and at depths reaching 390m below sea level, also the world’s deepest. The route runs from Randaberg, close to the city of Stavanger, to Bokn, in Rogaland, with an additional spur connecting to the island of Kvitsøy. Either cycle paths in the southern Romanian city of Targu Jiu are too crowded or this unicyclist needed an adrenalin rush.

Likely the latter, and daredevil Flaviu Cernescu, 33, got his fill as he pedalled around the 1m-wide crumbling rim of a disused industrial brick chimney stack. He is more than 250m up and manages to hop his unicycle over objects before deciding to hang by one hand into the black abyss of the chimney.

Tiring of his unicycle, Cernescu decided to walk and juggle his way around the rim.
Consortium constructing Netherlands contract

Work is now underway on a major highway contract in the Netherlands, worth a total of €220 million. The project is for the financing, design, construction, management and maintenance of the reconstruction of the A27 highway in the section between Utrecht North and the Eemnes Junction. Also included in the package is the A1 highway between the Eemnes Junction and the Bunschoten-Spakenburg interchange.

Parsons wins US-Canada bridge contract

Parsons has won a three-year contract from the Michigan Department of Transportation to carry out work on the Blue Water Bridge. The firm will provide structural services for the Michigan-owned portion of The Blue Water Bridge, which crosses the St Clair River and connects Routes I-94/I-69 in Port Huron, Michingan, with Highway Route 402 in Point Edward, Ontario, Canada.
