Major highway and bridge projects are commencing in China. Work is starting on a highway project at Baise city in Guangxi Province as well as on the Malantun section of the Xintai-Tai'erzhuang highway in Shandong Province. The Baise city project is being carried out by the CEEG Gezhouba Group and the deal is worth some US$3.94 billion. Work is now underway in China to build a new highway from Wuhan-Ezhou. The project is expected to cost US$.129 billion and is due for completion in 2020. The new highway will measure 34.3km long and will feature up to three lanes in either direction, as well as 14 bridges. The work is being carried out by the contractor Wuhan Municipal Construction Group.

Construction is now commencing on Norway’s Rogfast tunnel mega-project on the E39 route between Bergen and Stavanger. The project will cost around €1.8 billion to construct according to some estimates. The new project will set several world records as it will be the longest and deepest undersea road tunnel ever constructed, measuring 27.3km and reaching a maximum 392m below the sea bed. Paraguay increased its spending on road repairs during 2017. The country’s Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) spent around US$800 million on road repairs and maintenance during the first 11 months of 2017. The country aims to increase its budget for 2018 to $1 billion. The development work will see Paraguay increase its total network of surfaced roads from 5,000km to 7,650km by the time the current administration finishes its term in office.

A series of major expressway projects are under construction in China's Shaanxi province. The five expressways will improve transport links for six cities. Costing US$1.46 billion, the 75km Hancheng-Huanglong expressway should be ready for traffic in 2022. The 124km Xunyi-Fengxiang expressway is costing $2.12 billion and should be ready for traffic in 2020. Colombia is moving ahead with its 4G programme, as nine of the 30 key projects in the road development scheme now financially secured. The remaining 21 projects are now being built, while 25 of the projects from the 1G, 2G and 3G schemes are already in use, having expanded Colombia’s network by a total of 3,743km. Parsons will handle the design work for a new bridge in Indiana carrying the SR 249 route. The bridge will replace an ageing structure carrying George Nelson Drive across the US 12 Dunes Highway, as well as two rail lines at the town of Portage.
