Morocco highway projects being evaluated

Morocco is evaluating the feasibility of two major highway projects at present. One is for the addition of an express lane along a 381km route between Mekness and Rissani, and is expected to cost US$484.8 million. The other project is for a 250km highway from Meknes to Errachida and has a projected cost of $1.653 billion. Feasibility studies are being carried out at present, while funds are also being set aside for purchasing the land required.
Construction contract commencing on Colombia’s Toyo Tunnel

Work is now starting on Colombia’s Toyo Tunnel (Tunel del Toyo) project. The 9.8km long tunnel is being built by a subsidiary of the Spanish FCC Group, FCC Construccion. The concession contract for the tunnel is for a 10 year period that includes design, construction, operation and maintenance. The project is expected to cost US$483 million and once complete, the new link will improve transport connections between Medellin and Uraba. CT Ictas and Astaldi submit complaint over Peljeski Bridge award

Croatian media are reporting a dispute between two consortia and that of the China Road and Bridges over the Peljeski bridge project. Croatia’s national roads company Hrvatske Ceste chose China Road and Bridges but the decision is being challenged by a consortium led by the Italian firm Astaldi and one by Turkish CT Ictas. Kenya road upgrade with asphalt surfacing

An upgraded road link will provide improved transport connections for the towns of Ikutha, Mutomo, Kitui, Kabati and Migwani in Kenya. The road is now being surfaced with asphalt along its length, with the work costing US$182 million. The Bahrain-based Sarens NASS Middle East WLL group is boosting its fleet with the addition of 15 new Demag AC-130-5 all-terrain cranes. Uretek delivers voided soils treatment for UK’s M3 Smart Motorway

Ground engineering specialist Uretek has been treating voided soils as part of maintenance following completion of the UK’s M3 Smart Motorway project. Work is between junctions 2 and 4a where Uretek has provided a non-disruptive alternative to conventional underpinning to solve foundation subsidence problems. The focus for Uretek is an old 900mm corrugated pipe, 73m long. The old pipe has had a new 700mm pipe inserted inside. However, the old pipe is rusting and rapidly deteriorating.
