Taiwan-based Apus Molds and Plastics (AMP) says it has developed a ‘novel’ poly carbonate barrier system. Made from PC and PP materials, the barrier is said to be long lasting and corrosion resistant, as well as being lightweight and quick to install. Impact performance is also said to be good as the material helps absorb shock.

Speed cameras in Belgium ineffective in the dark

According to a Belgian police report, speed cameras cannot read licence plates correctly in the dark unless they are near to street lights. The report follows tests carried out between 10 and 21 January 2010 on the two most commonly used speed cameras in Belgium. The report also found that speed cameras are able to read yellow licence plates with black lettering more easily than other types of plates, such as the white plate with white background and red letters chosen by Belgium.

Western Australia police improve speed detection effectiveness

In its annual report for the year to 30 June 2011, the Western Australia police force has published figures that show a 58 per cent improvement in detecting vehicles exceeding the speed limit through the deployment of Vitronic's PoliScanSpeed.According to the report, 13.7 million vehicles were measured between July 2010 and June 2011. Of these 26.1 per cent were detected travelling in excess of the speed limit.
