Terex Corporation has continued to divest itself of businesses that are not core to its three main industry sectors - cranes, aerial work platforms and materials processing. Speaking at the CONEXPO-CON/AGG show in Las Vegas, president and CEO John Garrison laid out the company’s future strategy.

Terex Finlay is looking to capitalise on healthy North American demand for premium crushing and screening equipment. “The North America market has been very buoyant for us and it’s growing every year,” said Alan Witherow, Terex Finlay’s product manager. “Talking to some of our dealers on the first day-and-a-half of the show, the mood is very positive.”

Wacker Neuson’s newest AS50e rammer is a back-to-the-future move for the German company that is celebrating 60 years in the North American market at this year’s CONEXPO-CON/AGG in Las Vegas. Back in 1848, the original rammers were made out of old wagon wheels. They had zero emissions and were totally silent to use, except maybe for the sounds of the operator who manually pounded down the dirt.

FPT Industrial revealed an all-new range-topping power unit at CONEXPO-CON/AGG. It is called the V20 as a reference to its 20litre capacity, and the new power unit sits above the previous flagship, the inline six-cylinder Cursor 16. V20 packs a punch from its V8 architecture, with up to 680kW of power available from 1600-1800rpm, and 4100Nm of torque at 1500rpm. Sobratema - which represents Brazilian contractors and manufacturers – announced a new partnership with bauma at CONEXPO/CON-AGG. The expansion by bauma into Brazil comes as the country’s beleaguered economy is starting to show signs of recovery. Sobratema’s vice president Juan Manuel Altstadt presented graphs to journalists and industry representatives which demonstrated the upturn.

JCB has given its skid steer and compact tracked loader range some much-needed functionality with the introduction of a telescopic boom at CONEXPO-CON/AGG.

Dana has announced that its Spicer Smart Suite Intelligent Load Monitoring System (ILMS) is now available to equipment manufacturers for pre-production testing. Unveiled at the CONEXPO-CON/AGG show, ILMS is designed for use in telescopic handlers, to alert the operator to potential tip-over incidents.

Kobelco is launching its very latest hybrid machine, the SK210HLC-10, into the North American market at CONEXPO-CON/AGG this year. The first of these new-generation machines, which are the first to benefit from lithium-ion batteries, were manufactured in Japan in October last year.
