Hitachi Zaxis 5 wheeled excavators deliver performance

Hitachi Construction Machinery is showing four models from its Zaxis 5 range of wheeled excavators. The ZX140W-5, ZX170W-5, ZX190W-5 and ZX220W-5 all feature Isuzu Stage IIIB emissions-compliant engines powering the HIOS III hydraulic system. German mining equipment sales reach record high

The German mining machinery market is at a record high, according to the German Engineering Federation, VDMA. Mining machinery manufacturers based in Germany hardly suffered from the financial crisis, said VDMA president Dr Thomas Lindner. Since 2007, their annual turnover has grown by about 13% on average. In 2011, growth was nearly 27% and turnover then increased by another 28% in 2012 to reach €6.2bn.
XCMG to create R&D base in the United States

Leading Chinese construction equipment manufacturing firm XCMG has revealed plans to open a new research and development facility in the United States. Speaking at bauma 2013 Wang Yansong, the company’s vice president, said, “In the second half of this year we are planning to build a R&D centre in the United States. Wacker Neuson has broken through the €1 billion mark for the first time, recording a turnover of €1.1bn in 2012. The company saw sales grow by 10% in the year with the biggest increase (20%) coming from the Americas. And despite the economic downturn, sales in Europe were up by 7% as they were in the Asia-Pacific region, which was adversely affected by the Chinese market.

JCB has introduced two new soil compactors; the VM117D and the VM137D with operating weights of 11tonnes and 12.2tonnes respectively. The single-drum vibratory compactors can be used for a wide range of work in infrastructure and housing projects and have a smooth drum as standard with pad foot drums as an option. Two new all-terrain mast trucks have been introduced by Manitou. This Manitou range is now assembled at the company's Waco factory in Texas as the market is growing strongly in the USA but is mature in Europe. Shifting production reduces transport costs. Bobcat, a division of Doosan, is showing a prototype of the E85 midi excavator, an 8.5tonne machine powered by a Yanmar 44.3kW Stage IIIB engine. The machine meets the emissions standard through the use of exhaust gas recirculation and a diesel particulate filter (DPF). The reduced tailswing excavator has 4% more power than the previous E80 model, yet is said to offer a 7% improvement in fuel economy. Bucket digging force is also up 7%, and 6,600kg.
