A robot on the bauma stand of Italian company Penta Automazioni Industriali has been demonstrating the precision laying of paving blocks. Penta’s custom-made handling technology enables a robot to read the size of each block, pick up individual pieces and position them to make up a panel.

Volvo’s latest machines have been joined at bauma by a clutch of new attachments, including excavator buckets and a hydraulic breaker range. The range of tailored buckets and hydraulic breakers is designed to match the technical and performance characteristics of Volvo machines. Introductions include general-purpose and heavy-duty buckets for large excavators and a new line of hydraulic breakers for compact excavators.

ZF used bauma 2013 to show the next stage of development for its cPower continuously variable transmission (CVT). By combining the transmission with a hybrid module, ZF said greater operating efficiencies were available from the integration of start/stop technology and energy recovery from regenerative braking. Potentially, the hybrid drive system has the ability to boost fuel efficiency by up to 25% in addition to the 20% higher operating efficiency already offered by the cPower transmission, said ZF.

Mantovanibenne has increased the cylinder size on its latest Eagle II range of shears and redesigned the tip with a replaceable blade that pierces the material before searing back towards the throat while the one jaw is scalloped to release cut material. On display at bauma was the SH550 Eagle II, which fits carriers in the 50-65tonne range (39-45tonne if boom-mounted) and has a maximum opening of 760mm. The range goes up to the SH2000R, which suits machines upwards of 100tonnes with a 1.2m maximum opening

Wacker Neuson has added two compact telescopic handlers to its range – the TH412 and the TH625. The machines offer maximum heights of 4.31m and 5.73m respectively, with lift capacities of 1.2tonnes and 2.5tonnes. Despite their compact dimensions they retain large telescopic-handler design features, such as all-wheel steering and generously-sized cabs, standard on the TH625 and optional on the smaller model. Terex Finlay has developed the J-1170 primary mobile jaw crusher. Built around the proven 1,100mmx700mm jaw crusher, the machine is intended for primary reduction and product sizing of blasted rock and ore material. PERI says that with new VARIOKIT system components it is now possible to create a heavy-duty truss girder for bridge construction. A supplement to the VARIOKIT heavy-duty shoring tower launched at bauma 2010, PERI said that during the new truss girder solution’s development it took into account load-bearing capacity of the tower and the challenging requirements of daily construction work. Globally renowned Austrian formwork company Doka has almost tripled its sales revenue in the last 12 years and is aiming for greater success in 2013, according to Group chairman Josef Kurzmann. Kurzmann said the firm recorded sales revenue of €853million in 2012, compared to €326million in 2000. Additionally, the percentage of non-European sales revenue accrued by Doka had increased from 6% in 2000 to 42% in 2012. A new construction equipment show for the emerging markets surfaced today when CONEXPO Latin America was launched by the Milwaukee-based Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM). HammerHead Trenchless Equipment unveiled the world’s largest pneumatic pipe ramming hammer at bauma. The 865mm hammer can install casings 1.22m to 4.57m in diameter in drainage culvert and wash-over applications and can be used for pipe assist or pipe extraction, guided pilot bore ramming, and horizontal directional drilling assist. The hammer was recently field-proven in an Ontario, Canada, wash-over casing job where it successfully installed 56m of 1.83m-diameter steel casing. HammerHead CEO and president
