Bonfiglioli’s 705XT gearbox and 605WE electric drive highlight macro trends
April 24, 2018
Packing a bigger punch in a smaller package and the rise of the electric motor are two big themes underlined by new products from Bonfiglioli: the 705XT gearbox and the 605WE electric drive. Operating globally with an annual turnover of €808m (€300m of which comes from construction equipment), Bonfiglioli manufactures gearboxes, electric motors and inverters for products that range from production line robots to wind turbines. “In terms of development and innovation we are following macro trends: increased
Sales up 30% in Volvo CE’s Q1 2018
April 24, 2018
Significant market demand increases in all major regions – especially in Asia - helped propel Volvo Construction Equipment to a strong first quarter of 2018. Cummins to offer electrified powertrain solutions
April 24, 2018
Cummins has revealed its first electrified off-highway powertrain concept, which can be used to create a range-extended electrified vehicle (REEV). It follows Cummins’ recent acquisitions of Brammo and Johnson Matthey Battery Systems. “Cummins will be investing $300million over the next three years to continue organic and inorganic growth to develop a portfolio of alternative power units for the off-highway market including full electric vehicles, range-extended vehicles and plug-in hybrids,” said Julie Fur
Turbocharger package cuts emissions and boosts fuel efficiency
April 24, 2018
Cummins’ latest turbocharger innovation has been extended to the 500-series, with an electronically wastegated turbocharger that delivers efficiency gains of up to 8% as a result of changes to the exhaust turbine. By more closely matching turbine wheels to the compressor, greater fuel efficiency is achieveable, said the firm. The 500-series turbocharger is also said to offer improved resistance to oil leakage by 200% over the current industry standard.
Cummins Stage V solution affords smaller exhaust after-treatment package
April 24, 2018
Meeting EU stage V emissions requirements has resulted in Cummins’s development of a compact single module exhaust after-treatment package. Said to be 50% smaller and 30% lighter than those used for EU stage IV systems, the single canister design has been made possible from the use of advanced catalyst technologies that deliver improved particulate matter and NOx reduction capabilities. In addition, the DPF’s passive regeneration minimise the need for preventative cleaning and maintenance, said Cummins.
Iveco’s clean emissions mixer truck
April 24, 2018
Iveco is now offering a mixer truck that features extremely low tailpipe emissions, for use in urban areas with strict environmental legislation. Highly innovative, this new machine also features a hybrid mixer system supplied by Cifa. Fuelled by natural gas, the truck runs on a four-axle chassis, with the methane carried in a high pressure cylinder at 200bars, while the low emission engine delivers 240kW. The mixer drum has a capacity of 8m3 of concrete while the drive is electric. The novel hybrid system
Cummins achieves stage V certification with B6.7 and L9 engines
April 24, 2018
Cummins has announced that its latest B6.7 and L9 engines are fully EU Stage V emissions certified and in full production at its Darlington engine plant in the UK. “The latest emissions compliant specification has resulted in higher power and torque in a smaller, lighter overall package that has become cheaper to run,” said Eric Neal, executive director of Cummins off-highway business. And, he added, “Cummins’ ability to tailor engine power and torque curves and make full use of our in-house equipment such
Manitowoc celebrates 90 years of Potain tower cranes
April 24, 2018
Manitowoc is celebrating 90 years of Potain tower cranes with its first visit to Intermat since 2009. And it has brought three of its newest tower cranes along: the Hup 32-27, a Hup 40-30 self-erecting crane and the MDT 389, which is the largest topless crane to feature Manitou’s Crane Control System (CCS). Manitowoc shed its food equipment arm, Manitowoc Foodservice, in March 2016 and the last two years have been ‘challenging’, according to executive vice president Aaron Ravenscroft. “It’s a difficult bu
Manitowoc showcases speedy winch and internal lift for tower cranes
April 24, 2018
Manitowoc is showcasing two new products on its stand at Intermat: a lift for tower crane operators, the Potain Cab-In, and its 75 High Performance Lifting (HPL) winch for tower cranes. Manitowoc has developed the Potain Cab-In to meet changing regulations in France that say a lift must be used on tower cranes for heights of more than 50m from January 2019. Other countries are likely to follow suit, says Jerome Chanel, vice president of services for Manitowoc. Manitowoc says that its lift is a first b
