Improved transport for Kobelco Construction Machinery’s demolition boom
April 25, 2018
The challenge of transporting the front-end equipment of high-reach demolition-spec excavators has been a key driver in the development of Kobelco Construction Machinery’s latest models, the 40tonne SK400D and 55tonne SK550D. Both offer working heights of 25m and 28m respectively from a three-piece boom.
Kobelco Construction Machinery chooses lithium ion battery technology for its 21tonne hybrid
April 25, 2018
Kobelco Construction Machinery claims that its 21tonne hybrid excavator, the SK210H, is the world’s first lithium ion battery powered hybrid excavator. Compared to super capacitors, the Japanese maker has found that li-ion battery packs are able to retain their charge for longer, and can deliver a near-constant flow of power making engine fuel management much more efficient, while reducing spikes in operating performance. A large capacity, 200kg lithium-ion battery pack in the SK210H has the ability to d

Case CE highlights grader developments
April 25, 2018
Case CE is offering revamped graders that feature increased performance in the shape of its latest 836C and 856C models. Power comes from diesels supplied by sister firm FPT Industrial, which deliver high power and torque for low fuel consumption and feature proven and patented SCR after-treatment technology to deliver low emissions. As the engines have no Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF), this reduces complexity and helps to cuts running costs, while they meet the Tier 4 Final requirements.
Komatsu reveals prototype backhoe loader WB93R
April 25, 2018
Komatsu has unveiled the first prototype machine in a range of backhoe loaders with engines that meet EU Stage IV regulations. The WB93R is scheduled to go on sale in September with a second model due a few months later. “This new series represents a perfect match between performance and efficiency,” says Alex Visentin, product manager at Komatsu Europe. “Keeping the exceptional visibility and exclusive design for the work equipment of the previous models, our new backhoe loaders deliver high production
Angles of 0-90⁰ with Thyssenkrupp’s tk-DM30 drilling rig
April 25, 2018
The latest addition to Thyssenkrupp’s range of drilling equipment is the excavator-mounted tk-DM30 drilling rig. The tk-DM30’s strong mast optimises performance in a wide range of ground conditions and is suitable for frequencies up to 130Hz. Importantly, the rig allows drilling at all angles from 0-90°, essentially from horizontal to vertical, including underneath the excavator. The rig is specially designed for vibro-drills, very large hammer drills and double-head drills. These achieve high penetration
The Kobelco Blade Runner is given more push
April 24, 2018
Upgrades to Kobelco Construction Machinery’s Blade Runner, the ED160BR-5, have focussed on revised blade construction and improved track motors. The ED160BR-5 is based on the firm’s short-radius 14tonner, the SK140SRLC. It uses a six-way PAT blade (power, angle, tilt) and gives the 16tonne Blade Runner the pushing performance of a nine-tonne class dozer. The blade’s 3.26m working width is supplied with folding wings, reducing the overall width of the machine to 2.46m for transport. Power for the ED160BR-5
Haulotte unveils high-precision vertical mast Stars for difficult-to-reach work zones
April 24, 2018
Haulotte has unveiled a new range of high-precision vertical masts which the manufacturer claims will require minimum maintenance and reduce costs and downtime. Haulotte’s vertical mast booms deliver work platforms for difficult-to-reach places using telescopic masts that can climb to a working height of 6m to 10m. Often used for road-side maintenance work, units like the new Star 8 S vertical mast aim to “provide agility in confined areas” says Haulotte. The mast is “easy” to transport from site to site
Haulotte showcases Pulseo electric mobile elevating platform
April 24, 2018
Haulotte is presenting Pulseo, its new electric rough-terrain mobile elevating platform, at Intermat. Designed to lower energy costs as well as reduce air and noise pollution, the solution can be deployed in indoor and outdoor applications and operate in low-emission and low-noise zones. In addition, the electric architecture, according to Haulotte, make it suitable for work in downtown areas and green construction sites. Julien Micheli, product manager at Haulotte, said: “The product works with no emiss
