Mexico highway network under construction

Mexico’s road, highway and bridge building programme is continuing, with new routes under construction. US$327.4 million has been spent on rebuilding existing roads and building new links in the Baja California region. Maintenance has been carried out on 1,873km of Mexico’s Federal Road network. A further $120 million has been used to upgrade the border link between Tijuana Airport and the city of San Diego in the US state of California.
Lighthouse Club construction charity event

The UK’s Lighthouse Club is holding a charity dinner in the Scottish city of Glasgow on the 23rd November 2018. The event will help to raise funds for the charity. The Lighthouse Club was set up to provide financial and emotional support to those in the construction community and their families who have suffered an injury or long term illness. The dinner will be held at Glasgow’s Grand Central Hotel, starting at 6.30pm.
Vietnam’s road development programme

Vietnam is pushing ahead with its road and highway development programme. One crucial project is for the construction of the Ho Chi Minh (HCM) Road project. When complete the route will connect Cao Bang with Ca Mau, with some US$903 million required to finish the work. Around 79% of the 2,744km HCM route is open already, with the road due for completion by 2020. The 98km stretch linking Cam Lo and La Son should be ready in 2019, although work has stopped for the moment on another 289km section of the route
Indonesia’s toll road network is expanding

Indonesia continues to expand its toll road network, with major routes being built and opening to traffic. The toll road firm Jasa Marga will expand its network from 787km to 1,000km by the end of 2018. Four key sections of toll road will be complete at the end of 2018, linking Gempol and Pasuruan, Salatiga and Kartasura, Wilangan and Kertosono and Batang with Semarang.
Poland-Germany tunnel project planned

A new road tunnel is planned to connect Poland’s Wollin Island with Usedom Island in Germany. The project is expected to cost €225 million. The project was originally intended to be built by an Italian contractor, however an Austrian firm now looks likely to build the link. The tunnel plans call for a 1.4km link to be constructed using a TBM. The tunnel would replace the ferry service operating at present, improving transport connections for the northern Polish city of Swinoujscie.

Rolls-Royce has received its first order for large industrial diesel engines from a customer in China. The order is for Series 4000 MTU engines, which meet the Tier 4 Final emissions regulations. Key customer Jereh Petroleum Equipment has ordered 16 of the MTU 12V 4000 T95 diesels for industrial purposes. The company intends to sell the equipment which fulfils EPA Tier 4 regulations on the US market. Singapore-based tower crane rental company and Terex tower cranes distributor Crane World Asia (CWA) recently ordered 31 Terex CTL 260-18 luffing jib tower cranes In addition, the firm also ordered three Terex CDK 100-16 luffing jib derrick cranes. Meanwhile, a batch of nine Terex CTL 630B-32 luffing jib tower cranes, as well as one CTL 650F-45 luffing jib tower crane, will be delivered to South Korea later this year.
XCMG’s largest excavator for extraction sector

XCMG is now offering its 700tonne class hydraulic excavator to the extraction sector. The machine is the largest hydraulic excavator currently built in China and is powered by twin diesels, rated at 1,270kW each. The machine is 23.5m long and its 5m wide bucket offers a capacity of 34m3 and can carry up to 50tonnes/pass.
