Construction is underway on the new highway connecting Peru’s second city, Arequipa, with Moqeugua. The project is costing US$125.5 million and is due for completion in 2020. India’s Uttar Pradesh State awards expressways contract

India’s Uttar Pradesh State has awarded a consultancy contract for two expressway projects. The two new routes are for the 150km Prayag Link Expressway and the 88.5km Gorakhpur Link Expressway. The consultancy contract will be carried out by KITCO, a state-owned company. Both expressways are to be built with two lanes in either direction, although the designs of both will allow for an additional lane in either direction at a later point in time if required by traffic demand.

Construction of the second tube of the Karawanks Tunnel connecting Austria and Slovenia is now going ahead. The work will be headed by Austrian contractors, ARGE Swietelsky Tunnelbau and Swietelsky Baugesellschaft. The 7.8km-long tunnel route runs under the Alpine Karawanks mountain range. Nepal tunnel project receiving Japanese funding

Funding from Japan will help pay for a major tunnel project in Nepal. The work is expected to cost close to US$200 million and includes building two tunnel stretches. The project was first put forward in 2010 and work is now intended to commence in 2020, with its completion scheduled for 2023. The tunnel sections will be built in the area close to Bhaktapur, which lies to the east of capital Kathmandu.
