Caterpillar’s industrial engines division is using the C7.1 as a common engine platform as a replacement for the C6.6 as it meets Tier 4 Final/Stage IV emissions regulations. It means the 7.1litre six-cylinder C7.1 offers power ratings from 116kW to 225kW in either single turbo or series turbo configurations, and adds an SCR catalyst and diesel exhaust fluid dosing system as part of the existing exhaust after-treatment process.

Hatz’s Diesel’s 1D81 Hydro concept has been developed to offer a low noise level solution for applications using single-cylinder diesel engines. Still at prototype stage, the 667cc and 772cc capacity single-cylinder engine is a new variant of an existing Hatz engine design. As such, it uses common components from the Hatz range, but it differs with an all-new cylinder block and cylinder head design that includes a water jacket, allowing liquid cooling to be introduced.

Hitachi Construction Machinery has introduced a hydraulic technology known as TRIAS on its Dash-5 Zaxis excavators from the ZX210LC-5 to the ZX350LC-5. Developed to reduce fuel consumption, the system uses three hydraulic pumps and a control valve, which efficiently divides the flow from the pumps into each actuator as required.

Upgrades to the Flygt 2600 drainage pump series have been designed to make them even more reliable and durable than before. Doosan Construction Equipment has launched a Dash-3 version of its popular reduced-radius 15tonne excavator, the DX140LCR-3. Powered by a Cummins QSB4.5 Stage IIIB-compliant engine, with exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and a diesel particulate filter (DPF), the machine has 10% more power and 15% more torque than the previous model. Both main boom and dipper arm forces get an 8% boost, while travel speeds are increased to 5.3km/h, resulting in a claimed a 10% increase in productivity.
