New techniques for tackling congestion

Transport experts from the Royal Academy of Engineering are proposing methods to reduce traffic congestion. These proposals are included in a discussion document intended to stimulate debate on congestion issues. The working group behind the paper includes industry experts and academic researcher. The team looked at technology and policy measures that could reduce congestion in the most critical transport sectors by 2030, evaluating which measures would be effective and value for money.

World Bank helping fund Kenya road

Funding from the World Bank (WB) will help finance a key Kenyan road project. The US$440.61 million credit line is being provided by the WB to the Kenya National Highways Authority. This will be used for upgrading the Lodwar-Nadapal Road in Kenya. The upgrading will involve construction of bridges, culverts and other drainage facilities.
Aggressive drivers make others aggressive

Aggressive driving by one person behind the wheel can result in others following suit. That is the conclusion of a new study carried out by the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and tyre manufacturer Goodyear. The conclusion of the research reveals that when one driver behaves aggressively, others will respond with similar behaviour. The study was carried out in 15 separate countries and included close to 9,000 drivers.
Topcon partnership for photogrammetry

Topcon Positioning is establishing a new partnership for photogrammetry technology. The deal has been struck with digital photogrammetric solution provider Agisoft. This move will further expand the Topcon portfolio of solutions for mass data collection (MDC). Agisoft is a leader in the processing of digital imagery for generating high-accuracy 3D spatial data using photogrammetric and computer vision techniques. In the United Kingdom, work is nearing completion on extending the showground area in preparation for Hillhead 2016. In total, around 16,000tonnes of material have been excavated from an old tip area to create just under 2,000m2 of additional exhibitor space near the southern JCB end of the site. BAM wins motorway deals in The Hague and Munich

The Dutch city of The Hague has awarded a BAM joint venture with a €300 million design, construction and maintenance contract for a 4km city road. The new connecting road will run between the motorway at the Ypenburg interchange, A4 and A13, and The Hague’s Central Zone of Binckhorst-Centrum-Scheveningen.
