The contract has been awarded for a 7.8km sea bridge across the Mumbai Bay in India. A joint venture team comprising Daewoo E&C and Tata Projects will carry out the design and construction for the US$865.2 million Mumbai Trans Harbour Link. The partners will also construct the Shivaji Nagar Interchange located at Navi Mumbai. Once the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link is complete, it will be India’s biggest sea-bridge.

A US$403 million contract for a cable-stayed bridge in the Philippines has been awarded. The design and build deal for the 8.2km bridge will be handled by a joint venture team comprising Acciona Construccion, First Balfour and DM Consunji. The partnership is called the Cebu Link Joint Venture and should complete work on the link, which connects Cebu with Cordova, in 2021. Construction work for the second stage of the Chusovaya Bridge in Russia is commencing. The contract for the project is being handled by construction firm Stroytransgaz. The new bridge will span the Chusovaya River in Russia’s Perm Region. The contract is worth US$260.3 million and was awarded by a division of the VTB Group, the Perm Concession Company. Financing is being supplied jointly by regional and federal budgets as well as from additional sources.

Costa Rica’s long running San Ramon road project is costing more than originally expected while taking longer to build than planned. The work on the 30km stretch of road was planned initially to cost US$185 million but has so far cost $287.4 million. Meanwhile only around 86% of the project has actually been carried out, despite the work already having been underway for 12 years. An extension project is being planned for the Southern Beltway in the US state of Pennsylvania. The work is being planned by the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission and this stretch is expected to cost over US$87 million. The plans call for the construction of a 2.9km addition to the Southern Beltway at Cecil Township. The work includes the construction of two bridges that will cross Route 50 as well as a stretch of railway and the Millers Run Road, while a third bridge will link Route 50 with the Cecil

A large infrastructure project is now being examined closely in Australia, in Victoria State. Melbourne’s massive North East Link in Victoria State will provide a new connection between the Eastern Freeway and the Ring Road at Greensborough. Costing US$13.14 billion to construct, the 26km link is expected to carry up to 100,000 vehicles/day when fully commissioned.
