The tender process is opening for a tunnel section as well as linking roads for a project in Moscow. The project will form part of the Stolbovo transport hub. The tunnel will measure 1,.47km long, while the project includes building 7km of roads in Moscow’s Troitsky and Novomoskovsky Administrative Districts (TNAD) in the south west of the city. Also included in the work will be a 2670km overpass section as well as utilities and the construction phase has to be completed within a 17 month period.

Ethiopia is setting a target of 2020 to complete its road expansion programme. The plan has been to double the length of the country’s road network in the period from 2015 to 2020. At present Ethiopia has around 121,200km of roads, compared with around 100,000km of roads in 2015. But by 2020, the Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) aims to expand the network to 200,000km.

The project to upgrade the Pan-Borneo highway stretch in Malaysia is now facing a serious challenge. This follows a review of the project following the recent change in Malaysia’s administration. The joint venture between Ekovest Construction and Samling Resources that had been awarded the work has now had its contract rendered void. The joint venture’s deal was worth nearly US$528 million.

The tendering process for a key stretch of highway is underway in Kenya at present, attracting strong interest. The US$246.5 million project is the second phase of the upgrade for the Dongo Kundu bypass, with the work expected to take 36 months to complete and construction scheduled to commence in August 2018. Contractor Constructora Meco has been awarded an extension to the package of works it is carrying out in Panama to upgrade the road running through Pedregal, Gonzalillo and Transistmica. The Costa Rican contractor was awarded the extension by Panama’s Ministry of Public Works (MOP). The work involves improvements to an 11km road section that will help improve traffic flow between the east and north of Panama City. The work was originally expected to cost US$97 million but has now increased to $127.8 million

Completion of construction work on Colombia Hisgaura Bridge will be achieved in July 2018. The new bridge will be the highest of the cable-stayed type in Latin America and forms part of the road connecting Malaga with Los Curos. The bridge measures 148.3m high by 653m long and work on its deck has been completed. The bridge has cost US$35.3 million to build, with the work being carried out by contractor Sacyr. The new bridge is located close to San Andres and the project has included a number of challenges

The project for an elevated toll road link in the Philippines has been awarded. The new Taguig Express Way (MTEX) will be constructed in the capital Manila jointly by Indonesian firm Wijaya Karya (Wika) and Citra Marga Nusaphala Persada. The project for the 18.2km MTEX link is costing US$832.8 million. This stretch will connect the Metro Manila Expressway and Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3 with Makati, Manila and Pasig City.

The tender process is still underway for three sections of the new super highway project to connect Nagpur and Mumbai in India. Meanwhile 10 of the contracts for the Nagpur-Mumbai Super Communication Expressway (NMSCE) have now been awarded. The NMSCE highway project will provide an improved transport link between Nagpur and Mumbai, which are around 690km apart. The NMSCE highway is expected to cost a total of US$6.8 billion to construct.
