The project to build the Riederwaldtunnel highway tunnel in Germany is now likely to cost €477 million. The project was originally expected to cost €322 million. The tunnel will stretch 1.1km and will provide a connection between the A66 and A661 routes. Construction work on the tunnel, located near the city of Frankfurt, is expected to commence in 2020.

Construction of the Preljina-Pozega section of Serbia’s Corridor 11 route is commencing in March 2019. The project is challenging due to the terrain and this section of the route will include 32 bridges, 11 overpasses, three tunnels and three interchanges. The work is itself being carried out in three sections. One 8.3km section runs from Preljina to Prijevor while there is an 15.5km section from Prijevor to Lucani and a 7km stretch joining Lucani with Pozega.

A consortium has won a package of works to construct a section of the D35 highway in the Czech Republic. The 12.6km stretch of the D35 highway lies between Opatovice and Časy and the project has a contract value of €132 million, with the work expected to take 44 months to complete. Russia is spending heavily on improving roads in Siberia’s Novosibirsk Region during 2019. Federal funding worth US$75 million will be used to pay for work in the Novosibirsk Region. The work includes carrying on with work for the Eastern Bypass around Novosibirsk and rebuilding a stretch of the R-254 Irtysh Federal Highway in Kochenevo District, lying to the west of Novosibirsk. Construction is commencing on a key contract for Colombian road firm Nueva Via al Mar (Covimar). The firm will handle the 32km Mulalo-Loboguerrero fourth generation (4G) road project. The new route will improve transport of heavy goods between Buenaventura and Cali. Covimar has the concession for the link until 2040. The project is costing US$527.6 million but faces a number of environmental challenges as it passes through a protected area as well as over a number of waterways.
