East Africa's new connection

A new US$743 million road project now looks set to go ahead that will radically improve transport connectivity between Kenya and Ethiopia. The government of the two countries recently agreed a deal to co-develop a network of roads measuring some 880km in all to connect these neighbouring nations. The Mombasa-Nairobi-Addis Ababa link is expected to take three years to construct and will form part of the Trans-African Highway corridor. Growing US congestion problems will get worse according to study

The economic recession has only provided a temporary respite from the growing congestion problem, according to Texas Transportation Institute 2011 Urban Mobility Report.While traffic problems have stagnated in the US along with the economy, the annual study suggests that too little progress is being made toward ensuring that the nation's transportation system will be able to keep up with job growth when the economy does return.

New Zealand’s road safety levels continue to improve according to the latest official traffic statistics. Since the 1st of January 2011, there have been 241 road deaths in New Zealand, a notable drop from the 311 recorded in 2010. Germany’s Government intends to boost transportation infrastructure spending, with the majority of funds going towards roads. An increase of €1 billion will be targeted at transport with some 60% of that budget being used for improvements to the country’s road network.
