The Canadian province of Quebec plans to build a US$219 million bridge across the St Lawrence River alongside the existing Mercier Bridge in the city of Montreal. Provincial government cabinet ministers Pierre Moreau and Geoff Kelley confirmed that a new bridge is forthcoming, but gave schedule for procurement or construction start, according to local media. Proposals are being put forward for a major motorway project in Thailand. Costing an estimated US$1.16 billion, the tender process for the Bang-pa-in-Nakhon Sawan motorway project is expected to commence in 2019. A new highway link is planned for South Eastern Nigeria. The US$154.4 million project will connect Odukpani Itu in Cross River State with Ikot Ekpene in Akwa Ibome State. Up to US$571 million (NZ$812 million) is being provided by the New Zealand Government to repair an earthquake damaged stretch of State Highway 1 (SH1). The section being repaired lies between Christchurch and Picton and was heavile damaged by the earthquake that struck in November 2016.
