Asphalt paver proven in tough applications

BOMAG says that its new BF800 paver has now been well proven in tough working applications. The newly developed BF800 follows the same basic design principles of the smaller BF300 and BF600 models and weighs in at 20tonnes, with a maximum screed width of 2.5-10m. Extensive testing of the BF800 was carried out in an array of difficult operations and in late 2010 some 14,000tonnes of asphalt was laid in 3.5 days in 24-hour shifts to reconstruct the Brenner highway on the A22 near Bozen in northern Italy.

Stirling Lloyd is using innovative micro-trenching technology during a £1.1million (US$1.72million) project to improve Internet infrastructure on the Shetland Isles off the north-east Scottish coast. Fibre optic cables were fitted in a micro-trench 20mm wide and 150mm deep following road excavation, before the company’s Safetrack Crack Infill (SCI) system was used to reinstate the road surface for less closure delays.

The authorities in Albania are planning to open a new tunnel that will form part of the Tirana-Elbasan highway. This new link is currently under construction and is due to be opened in early May 2012. The tunnel is 4.3km long and is around 66% complete.
