Elevated expressway planned for Myanmar

An elevated expressway link is planned for Myanmar.

Tendering is underway for the elevated expressway project planned for Myanmar. Building the Yangon Elevated Expressway project is expected to cost US$900 million.

The tender process will remain open until 1st September 2020. So far 10 companies are expected to enter the bidding for the work.

The Yangon Elevated Expressway project will be 27.5km in length. Depending on the location, the route will be from 8-19.5m high. The route will feature two lanes in either direction.

The work will be handled under the PPP format. The project is being planned by jointly the Yangon Region Government and Myanmar’s Ministry of Construction.

    Discussions are being held in Myanmar with regard to the country’s Elevated Expressway Project. The Myanmar Government has been in talks with the International Finance Corporation (IFC). The project is expected to cost US$400 million, with work due to commence in 2019 and likely to require 24-36 months to complete. Building the 24km expressway will improve transport between the north and south of Yangon City. The project will be carried out under the PPP model, with IFC advising on the work.

    The tender process is being planned for the Myanmar-Korea Friendship Bridge, which will connect Myanmar’s commercial centre Yangon to Dala Township. Over $137 million in loans have been pledged by the Korean Economic Development Cooperation Fund to develop the 1.87km long suspension bridge. The tender process will be international and the work is due for completion by 2020. In all the project is expected to cost in the region of $168 million.
