Delays plague Slovakia’s D1 motorway work

Slovakia is reporting delays to works on the D1 motor, the country’s major east-west corridor and part of several pan-European routes, including the E50.


The planned 2020 completion of the D1 motorway linking Bratislava - Kosice could be 2021. There are reported technical complications to the section between Lietavska Lucka - Dubna Skala stretch with the Visnove tunnel near Zilina is experiencing complications.

Work by the consortium of 980 OHL and Vahostav on the D1 stretch Hubova – Ivachvova is suspended due to a land slide. Comlettion was to have been later this year, but this could be put back.

The D1 Hricovske Podhradie - Lietavska Lucka should be completed at the end of 2018.

European route E 50 runs from the France’s northern Atlantic naval port of Brest to Makhachkala, on the Caspian Sea in the Russian republic Dagestan.

    Work will restart on the 15.2km D1 bypass around the Slovakian town of Ružomberok after the government and contractors amended the contract.     The tender process will restart in 2019 for Slovakia’s Visnové Tunnel project. The tunnel forms part of the D1 highway.
