Technology supplied by ULMA is assisting with the construction of a new expressway bridge close to Cigacice in Poland

Construction work is underway for a new bridge forming part of the S3 expressway in Poland. The second bridge at Cigacice is close to completion and is in the Lubuskie Voivodeship, Poland.

The S3 route represents a major construction project for Poland with work ongoing for the stretch connecting Sulechów and Nowa Sól. This section includes building a new bridge spanning the Odra River at Cigacice is being built. This bridge is built from either side of the river and now is almost connected and is expected to be finished by the end of 2019.

A few years ago the first bridge was built in Cigacice and the road is now being dualled with work underway on the second bridge, close to the first. As for the earlier MS-4A bridge, the new MS-4B bridge is being built using a Balanced Cantilever Formwork Carriage CVS to span the Odra river. The ULMA carriages are designed to offer significant weight-bearing capacity without compromise the ability to adapt to varied cross-sections. For those spans located above the ground, the incremental launching method has been used.

It now straddles the water, pointing towards the opposite bank which it will eventually reach after another sliding operation likely to take place next year. The project to build the New Wear Crossing is now halfway through with the first half of the steel deck b

Framework plays a key role in construction of bridges and other major infrastructure works – Mike Woof writes Speeding construction processes can help reduce costs considerably and the latest formwork solutions can provide significant benefits in this regard. In many projects the use of standardized and modular formwork solutions can play a key role, reducing the planning and systems required for bridge building work.

Plans for the European Route E6 expansion in Norway include the 320m-long Harpe Bru Bridge over the Gudbrandsdalen Lågen River, at Sør-Fron in Oppland province. For the superstructure, PERI civil engineering technology experts developed a balanced cantilevered solution based on the VARIOKIT Engineering Construction Kit. Statens vegvesen, Norway’s agency for public road building, selected an extradosed cable-stayed bridge design – the first such bridge in Norway. It combines the load-bearing behaviour
