Plans are being drawn up in Colombia for a number of new tertiary roads in Valle del Cauca Department. A new highway will be built in Valle del Cauca department, while a new road will improve connections between Mulalo and Loboguerrero.
Driving work has commenced for Colombia’s Toro Tunnel project. The tunnel will measure 9.8km long and is located in Colombia’s Antioquia Department, with the completion expected in 2022. The project is costing US$650.5 million and the link is intended to provide a link between the Autopista al Mar 1 and Autopista al Mar 2 highways. When complete the tunnel will also cut the travel time between Medellin and Uraba to four hours.
Colombia's national infrastructure agency ANI will auction 13 road projects with a combined value of more than US$7.87 billion (COP 15 trillion) in H1 2014, out of 40 planned.
Nine of the scheduled auction projects have gone through the pre-qualification stage and will be definitely awarded in the first quarter of next year. In total, all 40 projects will involve investments of COP 47tn. The plan is to improve 8,000kms of roads in the country.
Colombia is currently working on major highway projects that will improve transport infrastructure in the country and form part of its 4G programme. The US$616.5 million Rumichaca-Pasto dual carriageway in Narino department will improve Colombia’s transport connections with neighbouring Ecuador, cutting journey times from two hours at present to just one hour. The project is being handled by a consortium, Consorcio SAC 4G and involves improving an 80km road section and building additional lanes for the 74km
Colombia is moving ahead steadily with its 4G road development scheme. According to the Colombian Chamber of Infrastructure (CCI), the Colombian Government has awarded 31 of the 4G projects to date. And of these 31 projects, 21 are being built at present with another eight in the process of securing financing. In all these 21 active projects and the eight close to commencement are worth a total of US$4.37 billion.
