Bosnia tunnel project planned

Work on a new tunnel and highway link will commence in the second quarter of 2018 in Bosnia. The project is being managed by the country’s road company, Autoceste FbiH. The €550 million Prenj tunnel project will provide a new link between the Konjic-Mostar North road and the Mostar North-Mostar South road.

    The European Commission will provide €25 million for renovation of the 7.8k-long Karawanks Tunnel, a motorway link between Austria and Slovenia.     Major road and tunnel development plans are being set out in Austria. The country’s road traffic management business, ASFINAG, has set a budget of €1.1 billion for new works to be carried out during 2018. A planned 50% of the budget will be utilised for building new roads or for tunnel works. The remaining 50% will be used to pay for necessary road repairs and maintenance works. In addition, Asfinag has set a budget of €100 million to introduce the latest toll collection systems.

    Bolivia has a major programme of highway expansion and improvements underway at present in a plan designed to improve the country’s transport links. The programme includes 16 double-lane highways being built, costing some US$1.85 billion in all. The work is being managed by the state-run road administration company ABC. The roads will improve connections to La Paz, Oruro, Santa Cruz and Cochabamba. The road between La Paz and Oruro is 80% finished. The other projects will be finished between 2015 and 2018.
