VIDEO: Successful explosive bridge demolition in Kentucky

A successful explosive bridge demolition job has been carried out in the US State of Kentucky. After a short delay, demolition specialists managed to remove the old Eggners Ferry Bridge successfully and without incident. The explosives broke up the four middle spans of the structure. The demolition job was not without its challenges, with concern over the presence of nesting ospreys on the structure. Demolition personnel had to keep a distance of 90m from the nesting area, which delayed preparations.
Work to start on triple-deck roundabout in North Tyneside, UK

Construction of a major triple-deck roundabout in North Tyneside, England starts in August.

The roundabout is part of an upgrade to the A19/A1058 Coast Road junction that includes lowering the A19 beneath the existing A1058 Coast Road and roundabout.

The €90 million scheme is on the main route to and from the Tyne Tunnel and will mean that people travelling along the A19 will no longer have to queue at the roundabout to go continue their journey straight ahead. Instead, drivers will use a new section of road which will run under the junction.
VIDEO: Work underway on Kansas demolition project

Work is underway in the US state of Kansas on a demolition project intended to improve key highway connections. The Interstate 35 was closed in both northbound and southbound directions at the weekend to allow demolition work. Meanwhile lanes on 1-435 were also closed for the demolition work. The common pier for the I-35 and I-435 routes was removed using hydraulic excavators fitted with hydraulic worktools.

Turkey has awarded the much-delayed tenders for the motorway connector roads to Istanbul’s Third Bosphorus Bridge.

The 90km motorway section between Kinali and Odayeri was awarded to the Kolin-Kalyon joint-venture with completion in seven years and nine months, according to Turkish media reports. The 170km section between Kurtkoy and Akyazi was awarded to Limak-Cengiz joint-venture which will finish the work in six years and nine months.

A spectacular video shows footage a key bridge demolition job in the UK. The bridge crossing the busy A38 near Plymouth was demolished during a weekend possession on the 14th and 15th of May 2016. The footage has been released by 8100 Highways England and shows the old Merafield Bridge at Plympton being demolished overnight on Saturday 14th May, marking the final stage of a £6.3 million maintenance project on the A38.
