New engine architecture from Perkins will help the firm deliver emissions solutions to meet future regulations. In Europe the Stage V requirements are being finalised but Perkins says that it will be ready with its new technology.
Volvo Penta claims that its D16 diesel is highly fuel efficient, as well as meeting the Tier 4 Final/Stage V emissions requirements. This engine has been selected by Metso Outotec for use in a powerful Lokotrack mobile crusher due to the unit’s engine’s high output and reliability.
As the Perkins engine range continues to evolve, considerable upgrades have been made to offer more value to end users. One example is the Perkins 1204J-E44TTA, which now delivers up to 150kW, representing a 15% increase in power over its stage IV predecessor.
Perkins said that fuel consumption has been reduced by 5%, torque is up by 5-10% and the resulting improved characteristics of this 4.4 litre engine could enable OEMs to downsize without compromising on performance.
Volkswagen Power Systems is keen to increase its presence in the construction machinery sector. The company, which now brings together both VW engines and those of heavy truck manufacturer MAN, has been present in the industrial fork lift market for many years. However with a range of Stage V ready engines on offer, the company believes that now is the time to make a big impact on construction OEMs.
