Contractor Constructora Meco has been awarded an extension to the package of works it is carrying out in Panama to upgrade the road running through Pedregal, Gonzalillo and Transistmica. The Costa Rican contractor was awarded the extension by Panama’s Ministry of Public Works (MOP). The work involves improvements to an 11km road section that will help improve traffic flow between the east and north of Panama City. The work was originally expected to cost US$97 million but has now increased to $127.8 million

Completion of construction work on Colombia Hisgaura Bridge will be achieved in July 2018. The new bridge will be the highest of the cable-stayed type in Latin America and forms part of the road connecting Malaga with Los Curos. The bridge measures 148.3m high by 653m long and work on its deck has been completed. The bridge has cost US$35.3 million to build, with the work being carried out by contractor Sacyr. The European Investment Bank has agreed an €80 million loan to Kosovo for construction of a road between the villages of Pec and Kijevo. The road is part of the 6B Route that connects the Kosovo capital Pristina with neighbouring Montenegro, a former Yugoslav republic. Project details have not been mentioned. The project for an elevated toll road link in the Philippines has been awarded. The new Taguig Express Way (MTEX) will be constructed in the capital Manila jointly by Indonesian firm Wijaya Karya (Wika) and Citra Marga Nusaphala Persada. The project for the 18.2km MTEX link is costing US$832.8 million. This stretch will connect the Metro Manila Expressway and Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3 with Makati, Manila and Pasig City.

A consortium will handle the contract to build a new beltway project for Kazakhstan’s capital, Almaty. The US$730 million project will be carried out by the consortium, which comprises the South Korean firms SK Engineering & Construction (SK E&C) and Korea Expressway and the Turkish contractors Makyol Group and Alarko Holding. The contract has been awarded under the build-operate-transfer model as a 20-year deal.

The Canadian province of Quebec tendered this month for expansion of the Pie-IX Boulevard bus rapid transit system between the cities of Laval and Montreal. The provincial government will contribute US$304 million out of which around $23 million will be for 28 new buses, according to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
