Sweden and Denmark are considering a fixed link between Helsingør and Helsingborg, either a a road, railway or road-rail. The link would cross The Øresund, a straight separating the two countries that is only 6.7km wide between the Danish city of Helsingør and the Swedish city of Helsingborg. Investigations, likely to cost around €2.3 million including €1 million from the European Union, will start this month with a final report by 2020.

Air quality specialist EarthSense is working with Oxfordshire County Council in England and connected vehicle company Tantalum to understand road traffic’s impact on air quality. Council fleet vehicles are being fitted with EarthSense’s Zephyr air quality measuring sensors that give real-time data on vehicle emissions and air quality along the route. The data collected by EarthSense will be used to coordinate traffic light control in an attempt to mitigate road congestion and, therefore, air pollution.

A rider amongst a group of cyclists on a training run in Australia had a rather unpleasant experience. The man was cycling along a road with his team mates when a young kangaroo jumped out from the road side and collided with him, knocking him from his bicycle. Although he was riding at speed at the time, he was not seriously hurt and as one of his team mates filmed the incident, will have video footage to better remember the incident by. The feelings of the kangaroo over the incident were not recorded.

Acrow Bridge has supplied a long-term temporary modular bridge to main contractor KPH Turcot for its work on the Turcot Interchange reconstruction in Montréal, Canada. The 32.3m-long Turcot modular steel bridge - Acrow’s longest clear span bridge in Canada – is 5m wide and has an orthotropic deck.
