Strabag toast ‘double-digit’ revenue and earnings rise

Strong demand in the German building construction and civil engineering sector and booming Polish transport infrastructure construction helped fuel a double-digit increase in Strabag revenue and earnings during the 2011 financial year. The Austrian construction firm’s earnings before tax and interest (EBIT) rose by 12% to US$442.81million (€334.78million), resulting in an unchanged EBIT margin of 2.4%. Meanwhile, Strabag’s revenue rose by 11% to $18.13billion (€13.71billion).

The authorities in Nepal are establishing a road safety plan that is intended to reduce the country’s annual injury and fatality rates. Nepal’s Traffic Police Directorate recently announced figures showing that of the 8,503 accidents recorded in the 2010-2011 financial year, 4,914 occurred within the Kathmandu Valley. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) intends to provide a US$277 million (€200 million) loan to the Northern Capital Highway consortium, which will build the central 11.5km section of St Petersburg’s Western High Speed Diameter (WHSD) route.
