A request from the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) in the US to provide road salt to local communities in need has received no bids from salt companies. ODOT asked salt companies to bid on 9,071tonnes increments of salt to be delivered to seven strategic locations during three rounds. A proposed Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) regulation concerning exposure to crystalline silica is based on decades old data and flawed economics, claims the American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA). At issue is OSHA’s plan to regulate the worker exposure to respirable crystalline silica. Crystalline silica is found in nearly all transport construction materials and products and can even be found naturally in the ambient air.

Strabag tips stable progress in 2014, mirroring 2013 performance

Strabag’s output volume remained stable in 2013 reaching €13.573 billion - down just 3% compared to the €14.042 billion recorded in 2012. The construction firm’s first full year figures for 2013 also reveal an order backlog up by only 2% to €13.469 billion from €13.202 billion the previous year. Strabag says it expects output volume to remain stable in 2014 at €13.6 billion, with EBIT (earnings before interest and taxes) of at least €260 million – similar to the level forecast for 2013.
