Berlin link contract awarded

Strabag subsidiary Züblin will carry out the contract for Construction Section 16, Contract Section 4, of the urban A 100 Autobahn in German capital Berlin. The package of works was awarded by the Berlin Senate Department for Urban Development and the Environment. This follows the award for Contract Section 2/3, which in 2014 also went to Züblin. The contract for the new section between km 21+815 and km 22+465 is worth around €44 million.
Gabon’s new road repair strategy

A novel approach to road maintenance is being seen in the central African country of Gabon. Some €2.36 million ($2.71 million) in technical assistance is being funded through the European Union, with work being carried out by an international consortium, which includes Louis Berger. New Moscow’s massive motorway building and road maintenance programme

A huge programme of works is planned for New Moscow. This is aimed at adding extra capacity. The plan calls for the building or reconstruction of over 120km of roads within the next four years. About 600km of roads will be built in the Troitsky and Novomoskovsky (New Moscow) administrative districts by 2035. Poland plans projected tunnel

A new tunnel project is planned for Poland. The project will improve traffic links for the town of Swinoujscie. Italian firm Technital has won the tender process to handle hydro-geological work as well as the design of the tunnel. This portion should be complete by the end of 2015 and the construction work can then follow after.
Colombia plans PPP project

A new highway project is planned for Colombia, which will be designed and constructed under a PPP concession. The Colombian Government awarded the project to Grupo Odinsa. This will be the country’s second PPP highway project and is expected to cost in the region of US$513 million to construct. Figures reveal road fatality increase for UK

Road fatalities increased in the UK during 2014, compared with 2013. The latest official figures from the Department for Transport (DfT) show there were 1,730 deaths on British roads by the year ending in September in 2014, a gain of 1% over the same period for 2013. Worse still, the total killed or seriously injured (KSI) total climbed 4% to 24,360 and child casualties rose 3% to 2,060. Cyclist deaths and serious injuries are up 8% to 3,500.
