Key road project tenders for the state of Tamil Nadu in India have now been awarded. The three project tenders are worth a total of US$117.1 million. The work relates to upgrading major routes in the state and work will be carried out in 36-42 months-time. The tenders involve upgrades of the Malliyakarai to Rasipuram, Thiruchengode and Erode Road, Arcot Villipuram Road and Kanchipuram to Vandavasi Road.

A UK local authority council has been criticised for what one resident has said is knowingly creating undersized parking bays. The parking area -- smaller than recommended -- makes it harder for motorists to make sure all their vehicle is within the legally allotted area. A British man saw an injured owl lying in the roadway as he drove past. Concerned for the bird’s welfare, he then ran over the creature repeatedly. When spotted doing so by a startled passer-by, he explained that he was putting the suffering creature out of its misery. A policeman in the UK surprised colleagues somewhat when he turned up to work in a very shiny Ferrari 458. His curious colleagues questioned how the officer could afford the costly car. Police qualified in chasing corruption cases then looked closely at the officer’s finances, finding suspicious quantities of cash. A motorcyclist in the western province of Rajasthan in India had a rather unwelcome surprise when he was knocked from his motorcycle, suffering injuries in the process. The cause of his mishap was somewhat out of the ordinary as the man had been struck by a part from an Indian Air Force MiG-27 fighter bomber as it crashed into a field nearby.

A British man has cycled around the UK, carrying his dog with him on his bicycle. The man cycled some 4,000km over a four-month period, sleeping in a tent along the way. He took his dog along for the trip and as the animal injured its paws running alongside, opted to transport the animal on the bicycle as well.
