Construction of a major triple-deck roundabout in North Tyneside, England starts in August.

The roundabout is part of an upgrade to the A19/A1058 Coast Road junction that includes lowering the A19 beneath the existing A1058 Coast Road and roundabout.

The €90 million scheme is on the main route to and from the Tyne Tunnel and will mean that people travelling along the A19 will no longer have to queue at the roundabout to go continue their journey straight ahead. Instead, drivers will use a new section of road which will run under the junction.

Work is due for completion shortly on Nairobi’s Southern Bypass, with an official inauguration being planned. The 28.6km highway has been constructed by Chinese contractor China Road and Bridge. Proposals have been put forward for a new tolled highway running around the US city of Lafayette. Parsons has won a deal to design and installation of the nation’s first all-lane, dynamic-priced tolling system on a 16km segment of Interstate 66 in Virginia. This stretch of highway runs from Interstate 495, the Capital Beltway, to US Route 29 in Rosslyn, Virginia. Dynamic tolling, able to adjust toll pricing to demand, will operate in the peak travel direction during weekday rush hours. A stretch of road in the city is used frequently for illegal drag racing, which the police in Cape Town are keen to crack down on due to concerns over safety. The officer has been given disciplinary charges by his employers as well as criminal charges over his dangerous driving.

In Qatar, a young tiger escaped onto a major highway. The animal was filmed strolling through cars stopped in traffic, while occupants hurriedly closed their windows. The animal, thought to be an escaped pet, nonchalantly strolled off the roadway.
