Construction work on Indonesia’s Bekasi-Jakarta toll road has recommenced after a break of close to 20 years. The work on the 21km Bekasi-Jakarta toll road was originally started by Kresna Kusuma Dyandra Marga (KKDM), a consortium headed by state-run Waskita Karya, with a 60% share in the package. New highway investment plans have been made for Russia’s Kurgan and Krasnodar regions. Some 240km of roads and 13 bridges are planned to be constructed in the Kurgan Region (Urals) by 2021. In Vietnam work is now being carried out on a new highway to connect southern province to Central Highlands, while progress is being achieved on the Ca Pass Tunnel project. A 200km highway has been proposed that will link Dong Nai province with Lam Dong province. In Turkey plans are moving forward for the construction of a new tunnel link in Güzeldere. The project is worth some US$177 million and requires the construction of twin tunnels measuring 3km long. The new tunnels will reduce journey times from 45 minutes at present to just 5 minutes. The work will improve safety on the route, as well as cutting congestion at peak periods.

Construction work on four expressways is commencing in China’s Hunan Province. The roads will have a total length of 179km and the work involves building new stretches, as well as widening and improving existing sections. In the Netherlands plans are in hand for a new connection between the A50 and N279 highways. This new link will be constructed in Noord-Brabant Province. The initial plan was for a tunnel running underneath a nature reserve that would carry the four lane highway. However the cost of this option is significantly higher than the other possible solution, constructing the highway through the reserve. In Ethiopia the construction of two new road links will be carried out by Chinese and Spanish contractors. The Ethiopia Roads Authority (ERA) awarded a contract worth close to US$48 million to Hunan Huanda Road and Bridge Corporation of China to build a 48.3km road in the south of the country. The work will take 29 months to complete. Two Spanish firms meanwhile will work together to carry out a $60.6 million contract in Ethiopia’s Oromia State. This project is for a 63km road connecting Ambo with Walliso.

Construction work is due to start shortly on the new Frunzensky Bridge in Russia, which will span the Samara River. The project is expected to take 35 months to carry out with the start date having been announced as December 2014. The work will also include building a new junction to connect the approach to the bridge with an existing highway. The project cost has been budgeted at just over US$264 million.
