A joint venture partnership has won the contract to build the Mumbai sea link crossing in India.

The tender process is underway in Malaysia for the construction of a stretch of elevated highway in capital Kuala Lumpur. The raised section will run from the interesction with the Sprint Highway and Maarof Road to the intersection with Sprint Highway with Semantan Road. The cost of the project has not so far been revealed.

Work on a major road project in the Australian state of Queensland is being delayed due to safety concerns. The contractor, Cintra, has been ordered by the local authorities in the state to stop work on two piers that will support the viaduct stretch of the US$1.21 billion Toowoomba Second Range Crossing project. Construction work is continuing on Colombia’s Toyo Tunnel project. This is in spite of the controversy regarding one of the firms involved, which has been drawn into the corruption scandal surrounding the Brazilian contractor Odebrecht. Canadian construction company Aecon has withdrawn from a private group competing to construct and operate the Gordie Howe International Bridge between Canada and the US. Aecon’s departure comes only weeks before the Canadian government plans to announce the winning group. The Czech capital Prague will replace the deteriorating 90-year-old Liben Bridge at a cost of more than €20 million. The 370m-long bridge over the River Vlatava connects the city quarters of Holešovice and Libeň. It was closed to traffic for several weeks earlier this year for emergency but temporary repairs, according to Prague media. The recent collapse of the Chirajara Bridge in Colombia has been attributed to design flaws. The Colombian Government has said that it will not pay for rebuilding the structure. Instead, the Colombian Government expects road company Coviandes and its insurance cover to pay for the rebuilding work. The remains of the collapsed structure have yet to be demolished completely. The Paris-based International Council on Monuments and Sites – Icomos- has objected to plans by Highways England for a road tunnel bedside the ancient monument Stonehenge. Icomos, which advises the United Nations on protection of world heritage sites, has written to Highways England urging a rethink of the planned tunnel that would be just under 3kmk long. It argues that the tunnel and the dualling of the A303 carriageways either side would damage the landscape and destroy archaeological evidence
