Czech tunnel link proposed as alternative

New Polish expressway project planned

Work is commencing on the S3 expressway project in Poland. Costing €355 million, the expressway will connect Bolko with Kamienna Gora Polnoc. A consrtium headed by Porr will handle the work, which is due for completion in the second half of 2023. The project will be complex as it will included two building tunnels as well as 12 bridges and flyovers.

A major highway concession package has been awarded to a consortium in Colombia. Concesionaria Vial Andina (Coviandina) has won the tender to manage the 85.6km road connecting capital Bogota with Villavicencio. The package was awarded by the national infrastructure agency (ANI). A 60m pre-constructed pedestrian bridge weighing 150 tonnes as been wheeled into position over the A63 in the northern English city of Hull. The covered and vaulted Princess Quays Bridge will be renamed when it opens in the spring enabling pedestrians and cyclists to cross over the busy dual carriageway. New bridge for Lowestoft in Suffolk

The tender process is being restarted for a new bridge in Lowestoft. The project is expected to cost some €68.2 million. The bridge will be designed so that it can be raised, allowing vessels to pass underneath. This will be the third crossing spanning Lake Lothing. Unlike the existing bascule bridge however, the new structure will provide a higher clearance so that some vessels will be able to pass underneath without having to raise the bridge, reducing traffic disruption on the road link.
