Peru highway plan

Discussions are being held in Peru over the alternative route for the Carretera Central highway. The proposed alternative route is expected to cost in excess of US$3.3 billion in all. The proposed route is the focus of discussions by the Ministry of Transport and the Regional Government of Junin. The high cost of this alternative route is one of the issues for the talks.

New Peruvian road tunnel project planned

In Peru plans are being drawn up for a new road tunnel. The aim of the project is to link Chaclacayo with Huarochiri. The tunnel will run between the Ricardo Palma Bridge and the Los Angeles Bridge. The aim of the project is to reduce traffic volumes and congestion on the Carretera Central road. The cost of the new tunnel has yet to be revealed. Improvement work is also being planned for a 19km stretch of road between the Los Angeles Bridge and Avenida Las Torres.

Scotland to trial an all-electric road gritter unit from Bucher

Transport for Scotland will be trialling an all-electric gritter unit from Swiss company Bucher Municipal along the Forth Bridges this winter. The Electra 100% Electric Gritter: SEIV 19 – 350 is a version of Bucher’s Phoenix Electra in which a 48V electrical system replaces the usual hydraulic systems. It is powered by a lithium battery and brushless motors with dedicated and integrated inverter. Trelleborg has signed a cooperation agreement with China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) for the Dalian Bay and ShenZhong Link projects. Trelleborg and a subsidiary of the state-owned CCCC have instated a strategic partnership. This will see Trelleborg’s facilities in Ridderkerk, in the Netherlands and Qingdao, China, supply tunnel sealing systems to the landmark Dalian Bay Immersed Tunnel and ShenZhong Link projects. A new expressway link for Vietnam

A new 225km expressway link in Vietnam will help boost connectivity between the Mekong Delta area in the south east of the country and Ha Tien Province. The project for the Ha Tien-Rach Gia-Bac Lieu expressway is expected to cost US$1.2 billion. The expressway will feature two lanes in either direction and will also connect with Vietnam’s National Highway 1A.

New Indonesian road links being planned

The Indonesian Government plans to give a boost to its tourist trade with the construction of 5,000km of new road connections. These will be built by 2024 in a bid to improve transport and help develop the economy of areas currently without adequate road links. In all around 2,500km of national roads will be built and 1,500km of toll roads. The plans also call for some 60km of elevated road sections or bridges to be constructed.
