Responding to the challenging radio environment at temporary traffic signal sites, Traffic Group Signals has improved the performance of its Active Channel Management (ACM) technology.

Traffic Group Signals is a major UK manufacturer of advanced portable and temporary traffic signal products. According to the company, with the rise in radio usage for on-site communications, telemetry and automation, the frequencies in which temporary traffic signals operate are more congested than ever.

A Simex PL 2000 cold planer was recently used on the narrow streets of the Tuscan capital Florence in northern Italy. The project involved resurfacing the wearing course at a depth of 30mm, explained Andrea Palmerani, owner of contractor Bitumvie.

“We needed equipment that would guarantee us a large milling surface all the while remaining in the field of compact machines suitable for a city context,” he said. “The 2m-wide drum immediately attracted my attention.”

The WIM installation is located on the A6 motorway about 2km from the border with Belgium. Several hundred meters of the road surface were renewed ahead of time so there would be no need to replace the sensors after a few years because of scheduled maintenance. The complete KiTraffic Plus system weighs trucks and delivery vans without interrupting motorway traffic, providing the basis for efficient weight enforcement.
