Polyfunctional Polymeric Systems (PPS) help stressed roads

Increases in mobility and loads to which roadways are subjected has led, over the past decade, to new technologies for increasing the life of highly stressed pavements. Alongside traditional layers in asphalt concrete with normal or modified binders, there are new technologies which make it possible to produce high performance bituminous layers through the use of polyfunctional polymeric systems (PPSs).
A triple win for Finnish asphalt plant manufacturer Amomatic

Amomatic, a Finnish asphalt plant manufacturer specialising in modular batch-type plants since the 1960s, has been commissioning three asphalt plants simultanesously. Amomatic, which exhibited at bauma in Munich in April, said all of these will be helping their clients meet their asphalt production needs during the spring.
Wattway: the way of the future

Wattway, the Solar Road, is the result of five years of R&D by French company Colas in partnership with the French National Institute for Solar Energy. “The Solar Road will play a part in the energy transition and is a building block for Smart Cities,” said Hervé Le Bouc, chairman and chief executive of Colas.
Dutch SolaRoad powers ahead

In late 2014, SolaRoad, reportedly the first solar roadway, was opened in Amsterdam, along 70m of a cycle path between two suburbs of the Dutch capital. SolaRoad consists of a cycle path constructed of concrete modules measuring 2.5m x 3.5m. In one lane, solar cells are fitted underneath a tempered glass top layer of around 1cm thickness, covered by a rough, transparent coating. The solar electricity from the road is fed into the electricity grid.
Highway Care International expands its presence in Australia

Highway Care International, a UK provider of road safety products, has launched Highway Care Australia, based in Sydney. "Highway Care has had a positive presence in Australia since 2006, when BarrierGuard 800 was first introduced,” said international sales director Ben Duncker. “We expanded the team last year to include local sales and technical support and we appointed a product manager, Wayne Duckworth, a specialist in work zone safety products and an experienced point of contact for the region."

Ennis-Flint, a manufacturer and supplier of road marking materials, has added Thermaline and Thermaline XF to the EF Series Preformed Thermoplastic (PFT) product line. EF Series is made for streets, reinstatement road markings, car parks, cycle-ways and airport landside areas as well as car parks, shopping centres, schools, business parks and more, especially at intersections with heavy traffic where durability and proven performance is essential.

A bulldog called Otto has set a new world record for skateboarding. The animal was able to keep its skateboard in full control as it passed underneath a human tunnel comprising 30 people. The record attempt was set in Peru.

A 16-year-old Swiss youth has found his high-speed high jinks will have repercussions. The youth travelled with his mother in a Chrysler Crossfire sportscar towards the famous Nürburgring Nordschleife racetrack, to take part in an open day. Even on its way to the track, the car was clocked for speeding along a restricted section of Autobahn.

Rather than stealing entire cars however, the thieves steal wheels and body parts. The sports versions of the Corsa are at particular risk of being targeted in this fashion, with thieves stealing front valances, rear bumpers, doors, bonnets, wheels, seats.

A customer found out that insulting car salesman is perhaps not the wisest course of action. The man had entered the Moscow car dealership and began drunkenly berating one of the staff. Unable to bear the insults any longer, the salesman then jumped to his feet and began punching the customer.

Two thieves in the UK robbed a property, taking the keys to the owner’s Porsche sportscar and then driving off with it as well as a TV, a wallet and other assorted items. The driver called his friends on the phone as he drove away, boasting about having stolen the high-performance car, revving the engine for emphasis. The driver quickly found out however that having consumed alcohol, he was not in full control of a vehicle that was also rather more powerful than any he had driven before.

In the US a kindhearted motorcyclist put her life at risk when she saw a kitten fall out of a vehicle while she waited at the traffic lights at a busy intersection. The woman rider ran forward from her motorcycle, gesturing at vehicles to stop so as to prevent the ginger kitten from being run over. The woman handed the kitten to a passerby before returning to her motorcycle and moving it to the side of the intersection. She then collected the animal and has since taken it home, renaming it Skidmarks.

Featuring an eight-colour ink capacity, the TrafficJet is now capable of printing both reflective and Mutoh Eco Ultra CMYK inks. This allows signmakers to add customised graphics and colours. With appropriate overlaminates, it provides professional-grade signage for commercial applications.
A Promax SP60 is hard at work for Yimtas Group in Turkey

Yimtas A.S. Group, based in Turkey, reports that it has produced 1,600 units of the preformed READYMARK thermoplastic road marking signs for the Turkish market since October. Yimtas was set up in 1980 to import products for use in the domestic production of road and guardrail safety barriers, traffic signs, thermoplastic road markings, component road markings as well as preformed thermoplastic READYMARK road signs. The company also has CE certificates approval.
MRL’s Mini Mac road marker stands up to the maxi jobs

MRL Equipment Company says its Mini Mac series of ride-on, self-propelled road marking machines is a highly manoeuvrable thermoplastic application unit. The Mini Mac is designed to increase production when applying markings for intersections, symbols or lane lines, according to MRL, based in the northern US state of Montana.
