Spanish infrastructure firm Isolux has secured a highway contract worth more than US$ 142.57 million in Senegal.

India's Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved four road projects worth a combined US$850.75 million (INR 46.20bn) in Assam and Madhya Pradesh. The projects involve the widening of stretches of National Highways 37 (NH 37) under the Special Accelerated Road Development Programme for India’s North Eastern Region (SARDP-NE).

Polish road authority GDDKiA has signed a contract with a consortium of Salini Polska, Przedsibiorstwo Budowy Drógi Mostów Kobylarnia and Impreglio for completing two sections of the A1 motorway. The combined value of two sections (Brzezie- Kowal and Czerniewice-Brzezie) stands at over €238.24 million (PLN 1bn). The works are due to start in the second quarter of 2013, with the completion expected to take 11 months on the Czerniewice-Brzezie section, and a year on the Kowal-Brzezie stretch.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has agreed to grant Tajikistan US$100 million towards reconstruction of the highway Penjikent - Aini – the Uzbekistan border. The total project is valued at $136 million. Tajikistan's government will provide US$22 million. In addition, OPEC will give a 20-year $14 million loan with a 2.5% interest rate.

New technology is being brought in to make it easier for local councils and utility companies in England and Wales to manage roadworks. Finley Engineering Group (Finley) is providing segmental bridge design and construction engineering services on three design-build projects in Israel. Road 722 is a US$68.9 million project in Haifa awarded to Danya-Cebus. The project’s twin precast segmental bridges have a total length of 314m and six spans. Work on Algeria’s High Plateau motorway is scheduled to begin in late June 2013, it has been revealed following the conclusion of related studies. The 1,300km motorway will link Tébessa and Nâam; connect to the East-West motorway; and serve 12 regions. It is one of 11 motorways to be built as part of the five-year, US$12.55 billion (DZD 1tn) plan established by the Algerian government. There is a further priority project to connect the ports in Béjaia, Djendjen and Skikda to the East-West motorway.

Philippines-based Asian Development Bank (ADB) has agreed to loan the Indian government US$252 million for key road construction projects. The 25-year loan has a grace period of five years, a commitment charge of 0.15% per annum, and the interest rate will be determined on ADB’s LIBOR-based lending facility.
