VDMA reports 3% rise for German construction equipment makers

German manufacturers of construction equipment achieved a turnover of €9.3 billion in 2016, a 3% rise compared to 2015. The increase was despite a global sales dip of 1% and in 2017, German manufacturers again expect another 3% increase in sales. Deutz revenue up slightly and more engines sold for 2016

Deutz has said that new orders for 2016 amounted to €1,261.4 million, up by 2.9% on the prior-year figure of €1,225.9 million. The level of new orders rose in the construction equipment, material handling and agricultural machinery application segments, and in the service business. Revenue holds steady for Wacker Neuson in 2016

Wacker Neuson said that it managed to keep 2016 revenue stable despite challenging market conditions but profitability was impacted by crises in key markets. The company is positive about 2017 and expects revenue and earnings to grow again. Revenue for 2016 was €1.36 billion, up only 0.3% on 2015. Kenya-Tanzania road link construction to commence

Construction work is due to commence shortly on a new road link connecting Kenya and Tanzania. The 450km route will connect the cities of Bagamoyo in Tanzania with Kenya’s key port, Mombasa. The project is expected to cost US$600 million and will also run through Saadani, Pangani, Lunga Lunga and Malindi. The route runs along existing roads and the work will require repairs and upgrading to a 250km stretch, as well as asphalt surfacing of a section measuring 175km.

Egypt roads expansion programme planned

Argentina Government developing transport plan

Argentina’s Government is setting out plans to invest US$3 billion in developing the country’s transport infrastructure. The plans are being drawn up by the country’s Ministry of Transport and call for Argentina’s multi-lane highway network to be doubled in total length from its present 2,800km. The construction work will be managed by Argentina’s Government in a bid to push forward the programme. Senegal highway project receiving funding

The National Road No 2 project in Senegal is to benefit from partial funding being provided by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD). The new National Road No 2 project will run 336km and connect Ndioum, Ourossogui and Bakel, with the ADFD supplying US$14.4 million for the highway construction. The source of the remaining funding required for the project has yet to be announced. One the highway has been constructed it will help boost transport and lower journey times.

Nicaragua highway funding deal secured

Repairs and improvement works will now go ahead on Nicaragua’s Pista Juan Pablo II highway in capital Managua. The project is expected to cost close to US$256 million to carry out. A portion of the funding required will come in the shape of a loan worth $105.5 million from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI). Astaldi begins drilling tunnels on Poland’s S7 dual carriageway

Italian contractor Astaldi has begun drilling two parallel tunnels as part of its S7 dual carriageway project in Poland. Each tunnel, between Naprawa and Skomielna Biala and under the Lubon Maly massif, will each be just over 2km long. Hitachi restructuring its European factories

Hitachi Construction Machinery (Europe) NV (HCME) intends to reorganise its European manufacturing operations. The firm has two factories in Oosterhout and Amsterdam and is making the change in a bid to boost both efficiency and competitiveness, with this move planned to be complete by April 2018.
