Funding is being sought for a major highway project in Pakistan. The country’s National Highway Authority (NHA) is looking for international investors for the project to construct a 296km highway. Located in Pakistan’s Sindh Province, the route would connect with other highways being developed with the benefit of Chinese funding. For the Sindh Province highway project, Pakistan is hoping to source funding from various countries including China, Malaysia, South Korea and Turkey.

The governments of Bangladesh and China have been discussing the possibiilty of investments in infrastructure. China will invest some US$50 billion in helping Bangladesh develop its infrastructure network. Transport will be a key priority. Key projects will include an elevated expressway and a four lane highway, as well as a new rail link and the Karnafuli River Tunnel.

A new poll from the US-based Association of Equipment Manufacturers has revealed widespread frustration over the current state of the country’s infrastructure. Nearly half of the respondents said that infrastructure has gotten worse in the last five years. And 80-90% said that roads and bridges are in need of repair. Work is now underway on a major highway contract in the Netherlands, worth a total of €220 million. The project is for the financing, design, construction, management and maintenance of the reconstruction of the A27 highway in the section between Utrecht North and the Eemnes Junction. Also included in the package is the A1 highway between the Eemnes Junction and the Bunschoten-Spakenburg interchange.

Key road projects in Poland look set to move forward. A tender process will commence shortly for a project in Lodz. Poland’s road authority, GDDKiA, will start the Western ring-road tender process. Poland's Infrastructure Ministry will give the go-ahead. The project involves building under 29km of the S14 dual carriageway to complete the circle around Lodz. A new road upgrade project in India's Bihar State is now moving ahead, forming part of the country’s highway expansion programme. The US$138.4 million contract will see the NH 82 link running from Gaya to Biharsharif being widened to four lanes. Funding is being provided by the Japanese Cooperation Agency (JICA). The contract for the project will be handled by local company Gaytri Projects. The deal was awarded to the contractor by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and Bihar State Road Development

Honduras is planning a series of major road improvement works. The focus of this road upgrade work will be improvements along the country’s Corredor Pacifico. The work is being planned by the Honduras Government and is expected to cost in excess of US$244.5 million. Financing is being provided by the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) for work on the 137km stretch of road from Choluteca to El Amatillo, which will cost around $154 million. Colombia is considering additional funding for its 4G road infrastructure development programme. Private financing sources are being considered as a possible source to help pay for the third phase of the 4G road development programme. A 60km dual carriageway connecting the cities of Popayan and Pasto and a road from Cututa to Ocana may be offered as tolled routes to attract private financing.
